How I Create Peace Even on the Busiest Days
Share
Hello, Today I want to share with you the story of how watercolor painting transformed my life for the better. Watercolor quickly became a daily addiction for creating art, and it started on a sunny summer afternoon out on my patio. The sun was warming my heart, and I felt an overwhelming sense of bliss and inspiration. I surrendered to perfectionism, and trusted my hands to guide the brush to do whatever it wanted! Turns out over 2.3 million people also loved what I created that day on the patio. Because the video of that very first watercolor painting went viral on instagram. Giving me the courage and confidence to continue on my path of being an artist. I felt like this viral video was a message from God telling me to keep going. So that I did! Fast forward to a grey gloomy day in the middle of winter in Chicago. I was teaching high school art, being bullied every period by anxious teenagers. I was overwhelmed, drained, and honestly feeling miserable. I felt like the days were going by way too slow but also way too fast all at the same time. Day in and day out I would come home feeling unfulfilled, stressed from the day, and carried that emotional baggage into the next day too. I remember anxiously chop up veggies to get out my pent up frustration from the day. I was feeling at a loss, when one day at lunch I decided I needed to paint again. I wanted to tap back into that relaxed summer feeling of pure bliss and inspiration. I wanted to reconnect to that part of myself that was joyful and happy, and I knew painting was the tool to get me back to that feeling! I knew I had a mountain of projects to grade, lessons to plan, and probably a million little tasks to complete. But instead I decided that the best thing I could do for myself in this moment was PAINT.
Even though I had work to do. The work could wait. The work will always be there. My well-being, my quality of life and my happiness is more important than my “work.” I would look forward to my little time alone every single day. I even became so addicted that I started to paint in the mornings before work started as well. Painting became my time to reflect, pray, be grateful, and soak in all the abundance in my life. Bringing the feeling of JOY to my daily work routine instead of felling overwhelmed, exhausted and unfilled. And since I was taking the time to fill up my own cup, and pour out my thoughts and emotions onto the paper. I noticed that my attitude towards my work started to shift. I started to become more patient with my students. I caught myself smiling while teaching. I had this joy radiating from my core, because I took that time each day to create SPACE within my HEART for that joy to exist. That's what painting has done for me. And I know that painting can bring you that feeling of JOY and PEACE that you are so desperately craving.
